Election 2018: Endorsements
These 2018 midterms are incredibly important. Please make sure you get out and vote Tuesday! If you need help finding your polling place or want to see who and what will be on your ballot this year, check out Vote.org for lots of useful voting information.
Because we care about the success of Lovington and want to make sure people here have strong leaders looking out for their best interests, our editorial team has put together a list of our endorsements for important races this year.
Governor – Michelle Lujan Grisham
Michelle is a rare kind of politician that always puts her constituents first. She has a long career in public service fighting for working families. Her commitment to doing what’s right is inspiring, and she’s received endorsements from the Sierra Club, the Latino Victory Fund, the American Federation of Teachers and many more. Her leadership will bring people from all across the political spectrum to the table to do great things for New Mexico!

US Representative – Xochitl Torres Small
Xochitl embodies the American dream and is an inspiration to everyone who meets her. She’s probably the kindest politician you’ll ever meet, and has a positive energy that is sorely needed in Congress to push through the cynical gridlock that’s become a cancer in our political system. Xochitl brings a New Mexican work ethic of grit and determination to fighting for the underprivileged and making the system work for lower and middle class families.

US Senator – Gary Johnson
Gary has proven himself before as New Mexico’s most popular governor, leading our state to some of its most successful times. He has an effective cost-benefit analysis approach to politics that will serve him well in Washington. His independent nature ensures that Gary will always put the best interests of all Americans over the special interests of idealogues and donors.

Secretary of State – Maggie Toulouse Oliver
Maggie has worked tirelessly as our Secretary of State for nearly two years, greatly improving our state’s electoral system with important and much-needed reforms. In particular, she has been vital in efforts to boost voter registration and participation in New Mexico’s tribal communities. We need more officials like Maggie dedicated to improving the way government works to serve its citizens.
